Come to the Lower Rio Grande Valley...
For a Visit - or for a Lifetime!

Lower Rio Grande Valley

The Lower Rio Grande Valley is a great place to be a ham. The climate, geography and economy are all ideal for ham radio operators, as evidenced by the diverse community of amateurs who have come here to visit every year, many deciding to stay year-round after becoming aquianted with the area and its people.

The weather is generally warm, tempered by a pleasant gulf breeze. The land is generally flat, with some of the best grounding characteristics to be found in the continental USA. The Valley is not an expensive place to live, and the people here are friendly.

A short drive to the south takes you to northern Mexico, where many of the local hams go for shopping and recreation. To the east is South Padre Island, with its warm beaches, beautiful view of the gulf, great fishing and fine restaurants.

Amateurs from all over the United States and Canada come here to vacation and to live, making the amateur radio community here uniquely diverse and interesting. There are a number of fine amateur radio clubs and organizations here, and a friendly VHF repeater net every evening where hams can get to know each other and keep in touch about upcoming activities.

Come down to the Valley for a visit sometime, and you'll see why many hams have decided to make the Lower Rio Grande Valley thier home!
